Patterns from videos

Using patterns from videos

We all have our preferred methods of crocheting from patterns whether it be by written pattern, graphs, videos or a combination of any of these.   Sometimes, the pattern we want to use is only available in video format such as those found on YouTube and if the video version of a pattern is the only format that it is available in, then for those who prefer a written version are often out of luck.

However, there is hope!  If a pattern is only available via video, do what I do.  Watch the video and take your own notes.  That way you have a personal working copy of the pattern in terms and words that you can understand even if you don't use the standard crochet terms and abbreviations.  For those parts that may go to fast for you, just rewind to the section and listen/watch again to make sure you haven't missed anything.  You can then watch the video from start to finish and compare your notes with it to make sure you have not left anything out.

A couple words of caution when taking notes to create your personal working copy:

  1. Make sure to give credit for the pattern to the designer of the video; don't claim that the pattern is your own.
  2. Don't share your working copy with anyone so as to avoid any copyright issues, etc.
  3. If the designer offers a written pattern for a fee that goes with the video, it is only fair to pay for the written version.

Dee's Corner - CAL 2019 - Afghan Sampler

Welcome to Dee's Corner on Dot's Closet.

I'm sharing with all of you files, posts, pictures from my friend Dee Frazier.  She runs a wonderful open and helpful group on Facebook called Dee's Crochet World.  This is a closed group so if you would like to join, just ask - believe me it is well worth it!

Dee has come up with a fun Crochet-a-long (CAL) for 2019.  Here is the info:

CAL 2019 - Afghan Sampler

Starting May 2019 I will post patterns of 12 inch squares for a total of 20 patterns. We will make 1 of each pattern in your choice of colors. There is no finished Sampler at this time.

Patterns will be posted here. The patterns chosen will be ones with photos and easily explained instructions. Ask questions if you need help. Do in any order you like.

Most patterns I will get from Ravelry (will need to set up an account if you don’t have one) It’s a free site. The patterns will be downloadable pdf’s. Watch for hook sizes on each pattern! All patterns in Bold I have tried.
