Alma's Square




Alma’s Square







The Alma’s Square is a variation on the Grannies Square. The solid and traditional granny stiches alternate sides of the square with the with a pattern of solid, traditional, solid, and traditional. The square can be made as small or as large as desired due to repeating rounds.



Notes:

· Size H/5.00 mm hook**
· Ch 3 counts as a dc
· Shell = 3 dc and ch 1

**Any size hook and yarn of choice can be used



Ch 4 and sl st in first ch to make a loop

Rnd 1: Ch 3, 2 dc into loop, ch 2; *(3 dc, ch 2).  Rpt from * twice and sl st into top of ch 3.

Rnd 2:  Ch 3, dc into next 2 dc; 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in ch-2 corner sp.  Ch 1; 3 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in next ch-2 corner space.  Dc in next 3 st; 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in ch-2 corner sp.  Ch 1; 3 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in ch-2 corner sp.  Sl st into top of ch 3.

Rnd 3: Ch 3; *(dc across to ch-2 sp; 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in ch-2 sp; ch 1, shell into ch 1 sp, 3 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in ch-2 sp.) Rpt from * once.  Dc in next 2 st and sl st into top of ch 3.

Rnd 4: Ch 3, *(dc across to ch-2 sp; 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in ch-2 sp; ch 1, shell in each ch 1 sp to next ch-2 sp. 3 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in ch-2 sp).  Rpt from * once.  Dc across to beg ch 3 and sl st into top of ch 3.

Repeat Rnd 4 until desired size of square is reached.
